Mari Smith gives Tips & Tricks for Facebook Fan Pages #smss10

I was very impressed with Mari's presentation and ideas...as so many of them are right in line with my own thought processes   And her "Scandifornian" accent was a fun surprise LOL

A few highlights and tips:
  • Mari stressed that if you are a business, your best option if a Facebook Fan page vs a Group.  And yes, even she admits that with Facebook changing the button to 'Like' from 'Become a Fan' has caused some confusion on what we now call our pages...we'll stick with Fan Pages.
  • Of Facebook's 500 million active users, one-half log on daily
  • 68% of U.S. Facebook users are more likely to buy on a positive FB friend referral
  • One of her favorite sayings, by GaryV is "Eyeballs are monetizable"
  • Have at least two Admins for your FB Page
  • Make your Fan page "open" to see Fan posts as well as your own

Is measuring ROI in Social Networking possible or should it be ROR?

Many times I am asked "What is the ROI of Social Networking?"

The answer is often unclear, ask any Social Media person.  It is unclear because many of the Returns you receive cannot be measured in terms of dollars, or numbers.

As I tell many of my clients, the possibilities are endless with regard to Social Networking.  The benefits may be new customers, better customer service, new suppliers, media exposure, new friendships, new business deals, knowledge on product &/or websites, and so much more!  You learn more so much from open and honest dialogue with, essentially, the world!  The audience is the largest you'll ever encounter.

As I have been attending functions and reading articles online, I have been listening and brainstorming on the other possible terms that could and should be used with regard to Social Networking, and the "Returns" we receive.  What's your favorite?

ROR - Return on Relationship
ROE - Return on Engagement
ROL - Return on Loyalty
ROK - Return on Knowledge

Twitter is not a 'Build it and they will come' scenario

I don't often beg and plead, but today I am reminding you...do NOT ignore your Twitter accounts!  I know many businesses have set up business Twitter ID's when they set up their Fan pages on Facebook.  Then they used the handy-dandy tool that auto-tweets all Fan page posts to Twitter.  Yep, I agree...that's cool and time saving.

However, unless you are a Fortune 500 company, or a widely known actor...it is not going to be a Field of Dreams scenario of 'Build it and they will come.'

Twitter is a two-way communication tool, just as many other Social Networking tools are.  If you don't have the time to be on Twitter every day, at least sign in once a week and check for new followers, new DM's (that aren't Spam), and new comments directly written to you.  Nothing can turn a potential client off faster than asking a question on Twitter, and getting no response.  Believe it or not, many people who use Twitter are not active users on Facebook

I highly suggest that when you are on Twitter, join in some chatter, or drop in some non-business chat that others might find interesting.  Show that you're human, and not a bot only there to advertise do no Social Networking.

Who knows......you may end up liking it
